Chris Childs is a 6th generation practitioner and certified instructor of Choy Lay Fut Kung fu. Chris has been involved with the Chinese martial arts for over 10 years. Chris began his formal martial arts training at age 15 under Sifu Antonio Carrico in the systems of Northern Shaolin Kung fu, Taoist Longevity Qigong and the Brazilian art of Capoeira. In 1999 Chris was promoted to assistant instructor and began teaching under the supervision of Sifu Carrico. As Sifu Carrico’s muscle therapy clinic grew he had less time to continue running his martial arts classes. As a result, Chris was asked to carry on the classes and in 2002 he was promoted to full instructor stasis in Northern Shaolin and Qigong. While teaching, Chris continued to explore other martial arts such as Muay Thai and Karate. During this time he also discovered the Ng Family Chinese Martial Arts Association in Chicago‘s Chinatown. Impressed with the power of the devastating strikes possessed by Sifu Sam Ng and his students, Chris joined the association. Shortly after joining the school Chris devoted himself fully to the teachings offered to him by Sifu Sam Ng. Through hard work and perseverance Chris excelled at the Choy Lay Fut method and has successfully participated in tournament forms, continuous and full contact competition as well as defended himself in real world encounters. Sifu Chris Childs now devotes his time to spreading the art of Choy Lay Fut Kung fu through instruction and freelance writing for Kungfu Taichi magazine.
