Chan Yuen woo was a disciple of the southern Shaolin temple and the uncle of Chan Heung. In addition to the martial arts training he received at the southern Shaolin temple Chan Yuen woo was also a disciple of the martial monk Dok Jung. Through Dok Jung, Chan Yuen Woo learned the Fut Ga (Buddha family) method of martial arts. Fut Ga is a predecessor to the Hop Ga system which is closely related to the Tibetan lama system of martial arts. Chan Heung trained with Chan Yuen Woo from the age of seven until the age of nineteen, when Chan Heung was introduced to Lee Yau Shan by his uncle Chan Yuen Woo.
